Bobcats Return to Familiar School
Texas State only signed one junior college cornerback in the 2013 recruiting class when they were able to lure Donta Clanton from Pierce C.C. in Woodland Hills, CA.
The Bobcats went back to Pierce this year to fill a need at the same position when they offered 6-3, 200lb corner Tyree Stone-Davis on Wednesday.

Stone-Davis already has offers from Illinois and San Diego State, but hearing the news of his third FBS offer made him very emotional.
"When I got the offer I cried," said Stone-Davis. "It was overwhelming. The coach from Texas State called and actually woke me up. But when he told me all the good things they were offering me I started crying because I was so filled with joy."
Co-Offensive Coordinator Mike Schultz leads most of the Bobcats' recruiting efforts with the California junior colleges and he was the one on the phone with Stone-Davis Wednesday morning.
While Schultz may be the coach recruiting Stone-Davis to Texas State, he also hears many times about the school from his former teammate.
"I speak to him very often about Texas State and how much he likes it," said Stone-Davis about Clanton. "He wants me to play with him."
"I'd like it if we played together at the next level because he's a good player, hard worker and a big hitter," said Stone-Davis.
It's rare to see cornerbacks taller than 6'1 because often times they don't have the agility to cover man-to-man. In most cases tall defensive backs are moved to safety, but Stone-Davis said the teams recruiting him want him at corner.
"Most schools are recruiting me as a corner and I feel really comfortable there," said Stone-Davis. "Because of my long arms I can run with receivers or I can come up and press at the line of scrimmage."
He had only learned of the Texas State offer earlier in the day, so a lot can still change, but right now Stone-Davis said Illinois is his early leader.
"My favorite right now is Illinois," said Stone-Davis. "They're not really my firm number one because I haven't taken any visits so it's still up in the air for anybody. If I had to rank them Texas State would probably be second, but it's all about how the recruiting process goes."
Stone-Davis said right now he's just trying to focus on his classwork and expects to start taking recruiting visits starting in September.
